Meriton Group Launched Its Chatswood Towers
Last night, Chair of the Committee of Sydney, the honourable Lucy Hughes Turnbull officially launched Meriton’s two towers, Centrium, in the affluent business district of Chatswood.
Ms Hughes Turnbull was accompanied by Meriton Group’s CEO, Harry Triguboff AO and both will be welcomed by over 150 people who attended the private launch which included government, council officials and media.
Chatswood was named after Charlotte Harnett, wife of the then mayor of Willoughby, Richard Harnett. Her nickname was …Chattie’ and wood came from the original wooded nature of the area. It was Chattie’s Wood and the date it actually changed to Chatswood is unknown.
Now a thriving Metropolis, Chatswood is one of the North Shore’s major commercial, retail and residential districts. Some of the best shopping, dining and transport facilities can be found in Chatswood. Centrium not only gives you access to those great lifestyle options, it offers panoramic stunning views across Sydney.
Mr Triguboff said that by retaining both towers and offering one as serviced apartments and the other as long term rental accommodation, Meriton was giving the Chatswood business district much needed rental options.
If we see a gap in the market, we fill it accordingly,ù Mr Triguboff said.
If we see that there is a great need for long term rental accommodation we retain the building to help boost the depleted rental market.
I like Chatswood and I have built there before but never kept anything. These buildings are landmark so I would like to maintain a little piece of this stunning area.ù
Any suggestion that Mr Triguboff is holding onto his apartments because he believes the market is about to turn is unfounded.
This is rubbish,ù Mr Triguboff said.
Chatswood is a very strong market. I read only yesterday that last weekend another developer sold over 100 apartments in Chatswood in one weekend.
The decision to retain the building is both a personal and business decision and to fill an undersupply of rental accommodation.ù
Centrium Chatswood is a mixed-use development valued at $700 million only moments from Chatswood Train Station.
The first tower offers 337 Meriton Serviced Apartments. With the Meriton signature resort style facilities including indoor heated lap pool, spa, sauna and fully equipped gymnasium, the luxury over-sized suites cater for both the business and holiday traveller.
The second tower has 286 residential apartments that will be leased out by the middle of 2016. It soars 38-storeys and has stunning city and district views. The mix includes one, two and three bedroom configurations. All apartments offer oversized luxury and all residents will have access to the resort style facilities on offer on the site.
Many of the apartments being built in this area are small studios,ù Mr Triguboff said.
We build so people have more space so all our apartments are oversized and offer greater luxury and comfort,ù he said.
The site will also include a small retail precinct consisting of four retail spaces that are now all leased, a child care centre with 56 places which includes a large outdoor terrace on the podium level. It will also have a council car park below for Willoughby Council offering 250 car spaces.
Meriton now have a total for 3,612 serviced apartments across Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
