In 1937 the award winning College of St Pius X opened in St Ives. At the time the monastery building was revolutionary. It broke with Gothic architecture, traditionally associated with ecclesiastical buildings, and introduced architectural features of the Renaissance style including round-headed windows, doorways and a high, tower-like porch.
